Johnston & Murphy Reviews
Very nice shoe. First pair I bought the top stitching came apart. Zappos sent me a new pair next day air. I would recommend these shoes to anyone. I walk all over the place in these, they are comfortable.
These shoes are great! The fit is perfect, the leather has substance and body, but they are flexible and comfortable from the first minute. The style is classic, but is made just casual enough by the unfinished sole and heel, and the low luster finish on the leather. Completely lined inside with lightly padded leather. I wish all my shoes fit and felt like this!
I have just finished, probably, my 7th or 8th transaction with Zappos. Great, would be my description of the customer service and functionality of this company. It seems like they have a "Whatever-it-takes" attitude to make their customers happy. Completely painless...a no brainer when it comes to shopping for shoes.
These shoes are very comfortable, have great arch support and they're waterproof!
Snappy style and great fit. J&M knows how to design shoes. We will see if they hold up to the reputation - which apparently is a worthless commodity these days. For the price and looks I am hopeful to get more than six months wear out of them. The combination rubber/leather outsole is a troubling prospect based on other reviews, but I will try not to puddle jump them. I do like the style and fit. I hope the quality is not a let-down.
Very comfortable and they look great. Perfect with dress pants and a dress shirt or to class up jeans and a sport coat.
I am the owner of two pairs of Johnston and Murphy lace-ups. I love them. They are comfortable and long lasting (I have had 1 pair for 7 years and the other pair for 5 years). However, the J&M Stricklin moccasins are very poorly made shoes. I bought a pair on a Saturday and after wearing them to Sunday brunch - I noticed the thread was pulling out on the top of the shoe where the elastic band is held. I exchanged the shoes that day. This morning (Monday) I put on the shoes for work and within 5 minutes I noticed the same thing with the new pair. Do not buy these shoes. I hate saying that given how much I love the feel and quality of my other J&M shoes. Those shoes -- particularly for their price point -- are high quality shoes. The Stricklin moccasins are junk.
This is my second pair, so that says something. Though the newer ones aren't quite as comfortable (a couple years older than my original pair). I wear them to work, where they are very adequate. I had the original pair resoled when they wore out. Good value. Only 4 stars due to the comfort issue with my new pair.
I love these shoes. It probably has helped that I finally bought a wide size. They're a good classic shoe.
This belt is terrible - have worn it twice and all the top level of dye came peeling off all over me. Too bad I already threw away the box it came in, or I would return it immediately. The build quality on this is unbelievable and not something I would expect from a company as reputable as Johnston and Murphy. Stay away from this belt!
Bought these as a birthday gift for my husband who hates to spend more than $75 for a pair of shoes, but he has been complaining constantly about his feet aching. He was initially upset I spent so much not them, but after wearing them for one day, he can't stop talking about how much he loves them! They look very professional, are easy to get on and off through security, and are well made. These are a keeper for sure!

I have some J/M brown shoes and the brown was an exact color match. That was nice. There's nothing fabulous about the belt---it's just a well made, quality dress belt with a nice silver buckle. I sucked it up and ordered a size up and am glad that I did because it actually fits and works better than some 38's that I own. Lesson learned there. A good belt at a fair price. Can't ask for much more than that.
These shoes are very comfortable - the soft leather uppers are very supple. I loved them the moment I put them on. The insoles seem to be attached to the footbed, and I have been wary of trying to pull them out to try custom insoles, lest I find that I cannot put the stock ones back in. I have wide feet and can never find cool looking shoes in the stores. Zappos makes it so easy to try out several pairs, that this was one of the most pleasant shoe buying experiences of my life. Thanks, Zappos! One problem is that the first pair I got split in the heel stitching after a couple days. Zappos replaced them the next day. That was awesome service! I have not had any trouble with the replacement pair.
Thought I was getting a narrow fit shoe but even with two pairs of socks, it is loose fitting. If you need narrow shoe, look elsewhere.
A very comfortable shoe right out of the box. Like my other J&M shoes they're great walking shoes with the comfort of an athletic shoe and the obvious good looks. The fit is good, though the height of the toe box could be a little more generous; but that's not a serious issue. It looks great and would definitely buy it again.
Great looking shoe which is why I bought it. Leather stiff and hard to get broke in. I went through several blisters and felt like it was going to slice through my achilles tendon. After about 20 hours of break in and adding mole skin to heel, shoe is now bearable but would still not consider comfortable. Also feels very tight across top. I felt like giving up due to the pain but at this price decided to suck it up. I have never had a more uncomfortable shoe experience.
I would hardly call these narrow. The toe box is rather larger and even with them completely laced up flap to flap they were still loose. Felt as roomy or more so than standard width shoes.Quality seemed good and leather was soft.
In my experience, Johnston & Murphy shoes are handsome, elegant and constructed with the highest quality materials and craftsmanship. These McPherson off-white suede shoes are no exception. I enjoy wearing white shoes but want to avoid looking like Pat Boone in the 1960's. These versatile shoes strike the perfect balance between South Beach casual and Palm Beach formality. The cap toe design and off-white suede add just the right measure of understated refinement. Accordingly, these shoes can be worn with a suit, a tuxedo and an off-white linen and silk sport coat (my vestments of choice). Men have but three instruments for making a fashion statement (i.e., a watch, a tie and shoes). Women look at shoes first (it's in their DNA). And women love these shoes.
I have size 13 wide feet and thick ankles. The shoes were a little tight when received which is normal for me. I stretched them with my hands and wore them for a week in Disneyland. I will be purchasing another pair soon. They were well broken in after 2 days. Very comfortable and get lots of compliments.
These just arrived. They have less shine than picture shows. They are more boring looking that expected. The box felt very narrow on 8½.
