I'm all about about comfort and fit. They're a bit ugly with the single lace eye at the top of the shoe but that didn't matter. My brand is Merrells. 75% of them fit fine on me and other brands don't equal them. I've tried a lot, too. These could have been passable maybe. For the price, I wasn't willing to keep passably comfortable shoes. The laces wouldn't stay tied even though I was wearing shorts! So, these will be going back and I'm grateful to Zappos for their generous return policy. I might try another style of this brand.

These are great shoes. Comfortable right out of the box. Great arch support, especially for overpronation. Only problem, which was significant enough to make me return them is the looseness of the heel cup. The ankle was secure enough because the lacing system allows you to cinch the shoe tightly, but that does nothing for the heel cup, which was way too large, thereby still allowing my foot to move too much in the shoe.

I'm a 12.5, which means very few shoes actually fit. These in a 12 have been the best active shoe I've ever had - a walking, climbing, doing-nothing shoe that are so comfortable you forget you're wearing them. I hope they never change this particular style!

Love the look but unfortunately, the toe was a bit to short with a heavier pair of socks for hiking. BUMMER! Returned!

Terrific shoes. I bought a pair the night before a long trail run (the 4 state challenge on the AT, ~40 miles). No break in time, comfortable right out of the box and all day. I'm no feather (#175) and the AT is pretty rocky in places--these did an awesome job protecting my feet while being light and breathable. I wore mine out hard and fast, using them with heavy packs on rough trails, running on gritty messy trails (the sharp rocks around Maroon Bells), wearing them as weekend grubby shoes (these things are crazy comfortable, and the grey looks OK with jeans--not like the common screaming neon running shoes), and even road running occasionally because they were just more comfortable than my road shoes. After about 350 very hard trail miles (and quite a few more walking miles), the hardface of the soles started to pull away. I wrote to Salewa to let them know that I loved the the shoe and that I thought they might be able to tweak a few things to make them even better (so I could buy them again, forever). 350 miles of abuse isn't bad for lightweight trail runners, but not superlative, either. They said thanks and set me up for a free replacement! Hoosh! They said that they were usually pretty generous to people doing through hikes, and decided let me crash that love. After I wear these freebies out, I'll buy another pair. They are just too comfortable. After that, I'll reassess their durability. But I'll be sad to jump to another brand or shoe--I love these.

What can be said about these shoes... they don't seem much better made than any other shoe at half the price. They seem to run a half size smaller than marked and are EXTREMELY narrow. I would consider them a very good looking shoe, except for the marble pattern on the sides of the sole, which is really tacky looking and out of place. Reminds me of stupid paint splash designs from the 1980's. Definitely not worth the prestigious price.

These are fantastic and so comfortable. I did downsize 1/2 size and they're perfect.

Wonderful shoes. used as winter shoes as well as real approach shoes. Comparing to similar class La Sportiva these have less hill/ankle lateral reinforcement. Great laces that do not unwind with a single knot. I would be OK sacrificing some sole durability to gain stronger wet traction. Wet traction is the only area I would improve.

Purchased these as a replacement for Lowa Tempests I've worn for many years (4 different pairs), but which no longer seem to fit me as I age. Having tried the Salewa, it's easy to see they make a quality product. Fit and finish on the shoes is excellent and the men's 11 is spot on. The shoe is firm underfoot -- not too cushion-y -- and comfortable. It is somewhat stiff and, I suspect, will require some break-in' but should be good long term. The Vibram sole is very grippy and I can see it will provide excellent traction. The looks... may perhaps be an acquired taste, but the toe box follows the contours of my feet very well I must confess, this shoe is far more of a dedicated approach shoe than I anticipated (was looking for a solid daily hiker/walker) and, as such, may go back to Zappos. The design of these shoes would be fantastic for impromptu rock climbing, edging -- and even bouldering activities -- and would be comfortable getting to and from the climbing location. That said, they might be overkill for city streets, dirt and gravel paths and general running around.

Great shoe. First pair so still early. Been running in Inov 8 for years and saw the support structure this shoe had. Runs about same size as inov8. Very comfy, solid in trail, tons of grip....very happy so far.

Fits like a glove around my foot and that really helps to keep my heel from moving or my toes getting scrunched when going up and down inclines. Has a lot of support and protection underneath when hiking over rocky ground. Couldn't be more pleased. It's almost impossible for me to find hiking shoes that fit well and avoid blisters but these really do "fit like a glove".

Great snug fit, grip, and styling. Haven't put many miles on these yet but so far they are very comfortable and stable.

This is my second pair of Salewa's. My first pair have held up great over the past year and a half, and I expect this new pair to do the same. Salewa's have great construction. The shoe comes with two insoles: Normal and Narrow. The Narrow insole is awesome and is one of the main reasons I bought this pair (and my last pair): I have B-width feet and the narrow insole takes up room along the side of the shoe, giving me a great fit. Kudos to Salewa for this outstanding concept. These shoes to be very comfortable from the first time I walked in them. Highly recommended.

These are fantastic boots. They're comfortable, supportive, and attractive (as far as hiking boots go). I bought them for a recent trip to Argentina and Chile that included the "W" Trek in Patagonia and hikes in the Atacama Desert. I never got a blister (I did proactively treat a few hot-spots) and my feet felt good even after a 16 mile day-long hike. I have narrow, low-volume feet and based on the other reviews, it sounds like those with wider feet might do better with a different boot.

Very comfortable boot to wear, but it tilts my foot inward so not the right shoe for me. Sadly my search continues.

Very happy with my new Alp Trainers. Used to hike difficult trails in winter and not at all disappointed. Great support, traction and breath-ability.

Amazing build quality and last shape. It is regretful that US market is dominated by the junk produced by the like of Keen and Merrell. These have excellent stiffness, support and structure.

I needed a pair of shoes that would REALLY keep my feet dry so I tried several pairs all featuring Gore-Tex. Out of a field of six this shoe was the clear winner. I had several requirements that needed to be met. I wanted a low top shoe that would be suitable not only for off road hiking but for my daily walk over asphalt, concrete and uneven pathways. I wanted a shoe that would accommodate my somewhat narrow foot and very narrow heel while also providing a generous toe box. I wanted removable inserts so that I could utilize the SuperFeet arch supports that work well for my foot. I wanted a sturdy sole that would grip well when hiking the hills and would protect the soles of my feet from rocks and roots. This shoe ticked all the boxes for me. I was unfamiliar with the climbing lacing system but quickly adapted to it and realized that it worked well in making the shoe fit my foot snugly and keep my heel from slipping without having to cinch the shoe overly tight. I did research online mostly in climbing blogs and outdoor magazines and the shoe was consistently well rated. The climbing lacing system can be replaced with tradition laces if you are not in favor of it as is. The shoe was immediately comfortable and did not require a 'breaking in' period at all. This shoe definitely justified its cost and I would recommend you give it a try.

I liked the hiking shoe and I just wish it would have fit. I assumed that the mens' sizing would automatically make it wider than women's sizes but in this case it was not wide enough.

The best shoes I've ever worn! It fits like a glove... Unbelievable! It holds my feet as a ski boot without pressure. I recommend this shoe for any use, all around. Thanks Salewa!!! Keep up the good work! ;)

I ordered 4 pairs of trail running shoes and these are the ones I kept. In comparison they left the others in the dust in terms of comfort. I love the minimalist feel of the top and the way that it wraps perfectly around the top of my foot. The soles are super grippy and grab the trail for a very secure, no-slip experience while running or walking. My foot feels amazing in this shoe. The widening of the sole at the bottom makes my stance secure and balanced which helps counteract my tendency to tilt my feet outwards. The sole seems to be made by Michelin as it says 'Michelin' on the back and bottom of the rubber. Not sure if I like that it says that on the back. I also don't love the bright pink mixed with purple. A personal preference which is why I only gave it 4 stars on style. I wish women's shoes didn't have to be so bright and colorful. Other than that this shoe is quite amazing and makes me feel like I can run faster. It is the perfect blend of total protection and solid construction with a light barefoot feel.
