These boots are aesthetically exactly what I was looking for. However, if you have high arches, there is no arch support. There is a cushioned bottom so they are fairly comfortable besides the arches. There are plastic inserts included, but they did not work for me. I would not buy these if you are looking for something with extreme support, comfort, and overall performance for hiking and backpacking. But if you are just looking for a good boot to wear for everyday and the occasional hike, these are really nice! They are very well made and the sole can be replaced so they will last you a lifetime.

The Danner Vicious boots are the most comfortable boots out of the box I have ever purchased! One day break-in and they were good to go. Very supportive, totally waterproof and love the wide toe box so your toes can spread out and not get too cramped, especially on steep descents. I wear 11.5 in most shoes and ordered a half size up per other's recommendations and they fit perfect. Thank you Danner for a well designed boot and thank you Zappos for the great customer service!

Quickie review: Super comfortable. Soft, cushiony insoles. For boots, I'm impressed by the flexibility. Love the classy yet simple shoe design profile. Destroys all other boots in terms of design taste. Red laces are a nice touch. Makes these boots talk. Traction on bottom of shoes is strong. I plan on traveling the world with these bad boys. Best shoe purchase I've made in a while! I ordered a half size smaller as I read on the Danner site that these run large and a couple of reviews mentioned that they do stretch a bit over time.

Amaaaaaazing boots. They felt comfortable right out of the box, with only minor pinching at my achilles, which disappeared after just a few hours of wear. Big difference from the Mountain Lights, which absolutely killed in the same spot! Even just walking around indoors, they were unwearable. And they were more than twice the price. The grip is super sticky! I can navigate muddy trails and slick surfaces with confidence. And yes -- they're pretty darn cute, too! Classic looking (even with those hi-tech soles) and very deserving of all the compliments they get. While I personally feel they fit true to size (length and width) they do stretch out a bit with use. If you can lose the length, sizing down a half could help maintain their snugness. But I just lace them tight and wear thick socks and I'm fine. My feet are hard to fit -- wide toes, narrow heels, and a bunch of old injuries that have really taken a toll on their symmetry. But whether I'm hiking, casually strolling, or grocery shopping, I never take these boots off. Seriously. I already know I'll buy another pair if/when I wear these guys out. So happy to finally have the Danner Boots of my dreams!

I am very happy with these boots so far. Having read some reviews about the leather near the tongue digging in, the tongue needs to be properly tucked the way it is designed. The other review about the laces not staying tight when trying to tie your boots is absolutely right.. However, that is how any boots with these metal eyelets and hook eyelets were designed. That is what they are supposed to do, it's a speedlace system. Pull hard on the laces and keep pressure until you secure each running end in the last eyelet.. I can tell these will be very comfortable after they are completely broken in (which takes months). I can only question the durability of the sole where it is glued to the upper. Time and lots of abuse will answer that question. All in all, the look of these and the hybrid boot-tennis shoe was what I was after and found that with these. I have had Danners that are still going strong after 20 years. Do I think these will last 20? No. But I'm willing to bet I can get a few years out of them, and that's good enough for me.

So far so good, worn a handful of times so far. comfy right out of the box. In my experience as well as some other reviewers they run large. I'm wearing a 1/2 size smaller than my usual size.

After trying five pairs of work boots at the beginning of winter I settled on the Danner Vicious 8" NMT Insulated boot. I have worn all three styles of the Vicious they all fit different. My foot measures 10.5 and is a little more narrow than a D width. The plain toe I wear size 11 and the width feels good. The non insulated NMT fits true to size but it was a little wide on my foot and too cold for work in a non heated warehouse and while making deliveries during a Michigan winter. The 8" 10.5 insulated NMT fits perfect. I have worn this boot for the last month. It is light weight, warm, stable, has good cushion, and the sole works good on multiple surfaces. The only thing I would recommend to Danner would be a rubber toe cap, a more supportive insole, and locking lace hooks.

These shoes are awesome. I usually order a 10.5 but these fit like a glove in size 11. When I first put them on they felt a little stiff but in 10 minutes once they warmed up they are fantastic. The build quality is incredible. They are built like a tank! These are perfect all purpose work shoes that look great and feel better. These are the type of shoes that only get better with age.

I like the boot or shoe so far only time will tell if they last over a year. Only thing to point out like one reviewer said that not enough cushioning or shoe tongue so it is more comfortable near the ankles and also that the metal loops for the shoe strings make them hard to stay tight while lacing your shoe. They also are not vary breathable after wearing them for a long day your feet can get pruny looking.

I usually don't do reviews, but the vicious is a good boot. I'm a landscaper. I had no choice put to push this boot hard through rain, mud, gravel, trees, brush, you name it. They're light weight, rugged and comfortable. I've used them one year. The sole shows some signs of wear. I like them some much, I'm buying a 2nd pair.

I like Danner boots in general and these are no exception. They seem well constructed with structured insoles.

My husband loves these boots! They are a bit expensive but worth every penny. They are made in Portland, Oregon. They look great and are waterproof. These boots are an investment piece but they are certainly recommended!

Wanted to love these. They are very comfortable however not enough toe room or support for me even with my orthotics. Had to return

This is not my first boot or my first pair of Danner's. Danner's quality is top-notch at this price range. A few quick notes: Definitely should order half size smaller than normally would. Even from my other Danner's I need half size smaller. They are slightly wide in the toe as well. They are very comfortable and feel like they'll take little break in time. Very, very warm. Too warm for 60 degree weather...the all leather boot with Danner's lining is not breathable at all. Just keep that in mind for how/when/where you plan to wear them.

They took a while to break in, but I have had them for about six months now and they are great. These boots have excellent construction. Love the Danner quality. I hiked every weekend during the fall in them and did not have any problems. I do suggest wearing good socks. I could see how they could rub on your heel otherwise. They are not fancy in terms of the modern technology and whatnot, but they are a classic. They are not a one season boot, they will last a long time. You can also send them back to Danner and get them re-soled and cleaned up. These boots are well worth the price.

This shoes look great right out of the box. Classic look that is handcrafted with Gore Tex inside. Felt really comfortable right away. I ordered half size smaller size then regular but could go with full size down because I like the shoe to fit really really tight, so I guess right recommendation should be "go with the half size down". Great shoe, hope it will last.

My fit is true to Nike sizes so all my comparisons will be equivalent to Nike sized athletic shoes. I fit Nike size 7.5, and bought the Danner in size 7.5. It is only slightly loose fitting than a similar Nike if I wore light weight athletic socks, but fit perfectly when I wore medium to heavy weight hiking socks. Perfect for winters where I have to wear thicker wool socks. The insoles are only so-so and will replace them shortly with quality orthotics from my shoe fit specialist in Santa Barbara. I have the brown/red suede and it looks exactly as it appears in pictures, except even sharper in person. I've been getting compliments on it all week. I love the speed laces, comes right off when I untie them and easy to tighten. It's been raining on and off the past two weeks and I've worn it through varying degrees of puddles - kept me perfectly dry. I took them up for some sledding in Big Bear with my kids and walked in slush all day, held up perfectly. My first pair of Danners, and definitely not my last! As soon as the saddle-tan color goes on sale, I'll buy those too.

I really wanted to love these! I read every review, debated forever, and finally pulled the trigger. They are sadly not at all what I need in a hiking boot, other than looking adorable. The way the tongue folds as a gusset creates a bulky lump that gets more and more uncomfortable the longer I wore them. (It's possible my feet are weird or I received a defective pair, but I don't think so.) Maybe some day I'll try them again, they are SUPER cute. I also prefer better ankle support when hiking, so I'm probably better off having found a more serious boot.
